The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

Each time a major awards ceremony approaches, there’s always a demand for the addition additional classifications to honor underappreciated efforts and delight the spirits of fans who have specialized interests.

Another commentator has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. This is the request: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why film award organizations don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise for the industry of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they barely qualify as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these award types actually cover many game types, making space possible for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category in 2014
  • A different innovative game missed out during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most popular titles in the world and have been for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience competes with well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification in important events. Brain-teaser creators operate at the hard edge game development, creating some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
