This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Partnership.

We present a dare for partners in committed relationships who appreciate the horror genre: Settle in with your loved one and stream Together. This independent film success of 2025 recently had its online premiere on the Hulu service. Outwardly, it could look like conventional physical horror, but within Together resides a deep meditation about how we choose to love our partners.

An Introductory Film Exploring Partnership Complexities

Together marks the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It showcases actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Tim and Millie, partners that have remained a couple for ten years. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, the two stars bring a particular energy to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a committed partnership.

The narrative begins when the couple move from the big city to the rural area for her career. A commonly used story element, of course, but that’s mostly where the cliches conclude. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their rural residence, a storm hits, and Millie and Tim fall into an hole in the earth. After spending the night there and eventually escaping, a mysterious influence begins influencing the couple. This force induces a supernatural closeness between them that goes exceeding typical partnership.

The entire film is a methodically building fright fest, interspersing bits of hallucinatory nightmares, unsettling (but not excessively graphic) body horror, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes during something horrific). Shanks skillfully blends these components expertly and wraps them up in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is only the performances of its stars, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his unwillingness to focus on anything other than his failing musical ambitions slowly bubbles to the surface.

Conversely, Tim feels trapped and cut off by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve left the city and removed from his network of friends. He dreads the idea of utterly sacrificing his individual identity in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for getting around.

The director's cleverest decision in Together avoids making Tim or Millie the obvious villain.

Tim and Millie face the sort of issues that come with most partnerships a decade in. At their core, they have affection for each other. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and are vulnerable at times. But beneath it all, there’s an unavoidable feeling of questioning about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the otherworldly presence in Together represent these fears of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to another person, the metaphor never feels overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments offer a perfect parallel to the character-driven drama. Both the frights and the fights serve the other symbiotically.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which is best experienced firsthand, has created disagreement on the film’s ultimate message about enmeshed dynamics. Accounts suggest that unattached audience members have seen the movie as a compelling reason for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, certain partners experiencing tension found that the film ended up guiding them to make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could function as a telling indicator of how you view relationships. Will the conclusion sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and yell at the screen, or simply look at your significant other and state, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an exploration you can undertake right now.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform at present.
